Massage Therapy Treatments
Deep Tissue/ Sports Massage
Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is often a more focused type of massage, aiming to release chronic muscle tension and address deeper adhesions, scar tissue or trigger points.
Athletes and people leading active lifestyles often find this style of massage beneficial, as it can target overused areas particular to their sport or activity. Our therapists can also suggest ways you can stretch and strengthen your body to maintain balance and reduce your chance of injury.
Swedish Massage is a form of traditional massage which utilizes a variety of techniques to relax and stretch tight muscles, promote circulation to the body tissues, mobilize joint restrictions, and promote overall health and wellbeing. It is often referred to simply as “relaxation massage”. Swedish massage is one of the most popular forms of massage in North America.
Myofascial Release is a form of soft tissue manual therapy that helps to unwind and reorganize the seamless web of connective tissue called fascia that covers and connects the muscles, organs and bone structures. Essentially, it is the glue that holds our bodies together and connects us from head to toe. Injuries, scar tissue, stress, inflammation, trauma, and poor posture can cause tensions and restrictions in the fascia. These restrictions can lead to pain and postural dysfunctions, often in places distant from where the problem exists. Myofascial release is an effective treatment used to correct and release these restrictions in the fascia and restore tissue health and balance.
We provide safe, effective treatment for women in all trimesters of pregnancy. Massage therapy can be an effective tool for minimizing discomforts during your pregnancy, so you can get back to enjoying such an exciting time in your life. Common issues that can arise during pregnancy include body aches and pains (low back, hips, legs and shoulders in particular), ‘sciatica’ symptoms, swelling in the hands and feet, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc. Massage therapy can effectively reduce and treat these symptoms.
We offer highly-skilled and knowledgeable treatments, and can modify treatments safely even with common complications. Tina, our resident RMT has extensive clinical experience working with high-risk pregnancy clients out of Women’s College Hospital in Toronto. Please contact us for more information or to discuss whether massage therapy is a good option for you.
Nerve Mobilization is the assessment and treatment of restrictions and fixations in the nerves throughout the entire body. Essentially, the nerves become “stuck” to the muscles and bones they are near. When this happens, nerves can become irritated and compromised due to these fixations, and are often the source of numerous pain and sensory disorders; sharp, shooting, burning or electric pain, deep aches, tingling, numbness, or ‘pins and needles’. Muscles can also start to weaken, as the signal from the nerve to the muscle which causes it to contract and move becomes diminished.
Treatment of nerve adhesions is performed through precise applied pressure and traction to promote freedom of movement in the tissues. Once this mobility is restored, irritation decreases and the tissues are able to regain proper health and function.
"Viscera" refers to the internal organs of the abdomen, such as the liver, gall bladder, kidneys and intestines. Visceral Manipulation is a gentle manual therapy that helps to release restrictions and unhealthy compensations that cause pain and dysfunction. The internal organs require freedom of movement in the abdomen to be healthy and function properly. There are many reasons an organ can become restricted – trauma, surgery, infection, pregnancy/delivery, poor posture or diet, stress, etc.
As the body compensates for this lack of movement, other issues begin to appear. For example, pain and limited movement in the neck, shoulders, ribcage, hips, low back and pelvis is commonly the direct result of visceral restriction. If this is the case, these problems will persist until the source (the organs) are treated and released. A variety of other conditions can also arise, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), acid reflux, ulcers, and various types of pelvic pain. Visceral Manipulation will help to locate and correct these restrictions, leading to improved body and organ health.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an extremely gentle, yet often dramatic treatment for various types of inflammation by restoring and promoting healthy lymphatic circulation in the body. It promotes faster healing of sprains, strains and acute injuries, while reducing pain, long-term complications and scar tissue formation. It is also helpful for conditions such as lymhpedema, leg ulcers, burns, and post-surgical scars including mastectomies due to breast cancer. It helps by clearing and decongesting the lymphatic channels for the body to rid itself of excess fluids in order to promote healing and restore nutrition to the affected areas.

What to expect my first massage therapy treatment?
Prior to starting the massage, your massage therapist will review your health history form and discuss in detail with you information related to your complaint or injury.
Depending on the nature of your complaint, your massage therapist may wish (with your consent) to do further evaluation or assessment to identify what is causing the problem and how we can best treat the issue.
We will work together to create a massage therapy treatment plan that best fits your personal goals and expectations, tailored to your individual body needs.
During the massage, we will ensure you are comfortable with the treatment at all times. You can request to try particular treatments (as listed above), or your massage therapist can suggest what they feel will be best suited to your particular goals and body needs. If you are not comfortable with the treatment, it can be stopped or modified at any time.
After the treatment, your massage therapist will usually suggest therapeutic exercises, stretches, or postural correction techniques so you can continue to feel better and improve your body health.
- Comfortable Clothing
We encourage you to bring comfortable clothing (tank top and shorts are recommended, we can provide these if needed), as we often show stretches and exercises after the treatment.
- Doctor’s referral/Diagnostic Reports
